Privacy Policy

How CouchCertified collects, uses, and protects teacher data.

Summary

We collect the minimum information needed to deliver your courses, issue your certificates, and comply with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s 7-year retention requirement for reflections.

What we collect

  • Account info: name and email when you enroll. We use passwordless email sign-in, so there’s no password to store.
  • Course activity: Knowledge Check answers, reflections, Final Exam responses, and completion timestamps.
  • Payment info: processed and stored by Stripe; we never see your full card number.
  • Operational telemetry: anonymized page views (GA4) and error logs.

How we use it

  • Deliver your courses and certificates.
  • Comply with DESE’s 7-year retention requirement on reflections.
  • Send transactional email (welcome, certificate ready, completion).
  • Improve courses (aggregated, anonymized analysis of reflections — PII is redacted before analysis).

Cookies

We use a small number of functional (strictly necessary) cookies to keep you signed in and make the site work, plus privacy-respecting analytics. We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. See our Cookie Notice for details.

Who we share with

  • Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Bunny.net (video hosting), Cloudflare (hosting / CDN / workflow orchestration). Each is bound by their own privacy policy and only receives the data needed for their function.
  • Government: We share data with DESE on request, as required by our provider agreement.
  • We never sell your data.

Your rights

  • Access / export: email info@couchcertified.com and we’ll send you a copy of your data within 30 days.
  • Deletion: email info@couchcertified.com to delete your account. On a verified request we remove your personal information — your name, email, and educator identifiers — within 30 days. Some records are kept in de-identified form where the law or our provider agreement requires it: your course reflections and completion records for 7 years (DESE requirement), and any professional-development certificate you earned (a lasting credential with a public verification link). These are no longer linked to your identifying information.
